“Be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.” Deut. 6:12.
In life there are things we should forget, and even God forgets our sins the moment we repent and He forgives us. I am So glad that God’s delete button works perfectly and even erases memory simultaneously. However, there are important things we cannot afford to forget and top on the list is God himself.
The history of mankind in general and that of Israel in particular is replete with such sad experiences. Even before the children of Israel got to the Promised Land, God warned them that they will inherit abundance of stuff and will prosper so much that they will forget the Lord who delivered them from slavery and misery in Egypt. There is something about prosperity that makes us forget God. Jesus said the same thing when he challenged the rich young ruler who was not ready to give up his wealth to follow Jesus. Jesus remarked: “it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:23).
It is so easy to put our hope and trust in the things we have acquired and they become our security while God is put in the back burner until we need Him. O Lord, help us to never forget you no matter what situation we find ourselves in. Amen!
