Why do you call me Lord, Lord and do not do what I say. Luke 6:46.
Lord means Master and in today’s usage: “Boss”. He is in charge and call the shots. He did not rise through the ranks to become Lord which could infer that someone else may rise and replace Him. We did not vote Him in and therefore we cannot vote Him out. He is Lord. He is God. He is Alpha and Omega. He owns us and requires absolute and unquestionable obedience from us.
“A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” Mal. 1:6.
A Christian is one who knows that Jesus is Lord and as a result has humbly and willingly submitted to His Lordship. Our response to every word and command of Christ should always be: Yes, Lord! To say Yes Lord and add a condition, delay or out rightly refuse to obey is an oxymoron. Those who reject Him as Lord and those who claim Him to be their Lord yet fail to obey Him are in the same boat – they do not belong to Him. The chilling news is that one day every knee must bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. For some, that confession will be self-condemnation.
Doing what God requires of you is the evidence that accompanies your faith in Christ’s attorning sacrifice for you. Let us say YES to our Lord every time, whatever He commands us to do. Amen!
