“… I am the Lord, who heals you” (Exo. 15:26). These days, when science and medicine have become the anchor of hope for many, divine healing is not expected in many circles. Once a doctor says there is nothing more they can do for a patient, all hope is lost. Doctors are limited in what they can do and sometimes make fatal errors. Trusting wholly on doctors is idolatry. We have those who will not go to doctors and believe only in divine healing. Some get healed that way, while others die or eventually are taken to a hospital too late. The Bible gives instances of the use of medicine, and so we should not neglect that. A third group is those taught positive confession. When sick, they are not to confess that they are ill but to confess that they are healed positively. They refuse to go to doctors or admit their sickness. Fear, rather than faith, plays out in such situations. This is misguided teaching. We cannot be in denial of what we are going through. Admitting the fact will lead us to the prayer of faith, invite church elders to pray, and seek medical help while holding firm to God as our ultimate Healer.
