For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’ … Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate. Mat. 19:5-6
I hate divorce, says the Lord God of Israel …” (Mal. 2:16). “… A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife” (1Cor. 7:10-11). “… a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him” (Rom. 7:2).
Here are some facts to think about:
- God is the one who joins every marriage – Christian or non-Christian.
- The man and woman become one, and no one has the right to separate them, not the couple.
- Should they separate or even divorce, they cannot remarry.
- Death of a spouse is the only gateway to remarry.
Where an unbelieving spouse walks away or in a case of marital infidelity, the other spouse is free, but no definitive statement that they can remarry. Count the cost before you marry.
