How Much Heaven Is in Your Heart?

The difference between hope and despair, joy and sadness, peace and disquiet is how much space heaven occupies in your heart compared to earthly stuff. When Jesus declared, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Mat. 6:21), He asked if heaven was on your mind. Evaluate yourself through these four questions that require a YES or NO answer:

  1. Are you more excited about the prospects of heaven than achieving your earthly goals?
  2. If you suddenly realize that this is your last day on earth, will you be more excited about the prospects of meeting with Jesus than being disappointed about unfulfilled ambitions?
  3. Do you reference God’s Kingdom more than your earthly goals in your conversations with friends and daily prayers?
  4. Do you spend more resources to build God’s Kingdom than your earthly kingdom?

We are saved by grace through faith and not because of what we do, but if heaven is not on our minds, what are we saved from, and for what?
