As it is written: ‘There is no one righteous, not even one.’ Rom. 3:10
This verse is humbling and an indictment of the character of man since the fall. From the time of Adam after the fall till today our world has not and cannot produce one righteous person.
Even an infant that dies one minute after birth cannot be declared righteous.
The fall resulted in every one of us born with SIN in our DNA. Camping out alone in a monastery in Siberia will not resolve our sin problem. Living morally upright and expending our time and resources to do good to humanity and even environment will not make us righteous either. God said: “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags ..” Isaiah 64:6.
To side track, next time someone ask you why bad things happen to good people, simply ask the individual how good he/she is? If honest, they will admit they are not good enough. Then ask who that good person is they are rooting for. If they are not honest and claim to be good, then quote the verse above and add Jesus’ statement to the rich young ruler: “No one is good—except God alone (Mark 10:18).
Now back to our hopeless situation, God in His mercy gave His Son to die for our sins, His blood washed away our sins and we are clothed in His righteousness. So today there are righteous people, but none earned it; it is a gift. It can be yours today if you ask Jesus into your life.
