So now, go … bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go …? Ex. 3:10-11
Leadership is one of the most attractive responsibilities everyone feels entitled to and could perform well. People fight for this role, even in unfair ways. For believers, leadership is both a gift and a calling. Men are called to lead their homes and the Church. Others have the gift of leadership; God calls and gives them specific assignments. Moses was born to be a leader, but he jumped the gun before his call. At 40, he thought he was ready to deliver the Israelites and took off by killing one Egyptian. God took him aside to the wilderness for 40 years of training. God’s call finally came through at age 80, but Moses was no longer confident in himself; he dreaded this God-sized assignment. God might not have called any believer that schemes for a leadership role, and he will perform like Moses before God equipped him. Is God calling you to a task? Be sure before you launch out.
