Daily, we are bombarded with new and improved products in the market or new ways of doing old things better, faster, and cheaper. We want upgrades to the latest products because they are better and more user-friendly than the old ones. On the spiritual side, we may echo with the psalmist our desire for a spiritual upgrade and cry out: “Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” (Ps. 85:6). Whenever God answers such a prayer, it is the same old-fashioned way of renewal that He employs. No new message or revelation is heard from the Lord. Instead, He takes us back to His Word and reminds us to obey the same old truths we have been taught. Do you desire revival for yourself? Do not go anywhere looking for new, improved ways. Go back to the old-fashioned way of reading and meditating on the Word, yielding to the control of the Holy Spirit, and then doing everything God commands.
