“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save me!” (Mat. 14:30). The best security we have against life’s adversities is to stay focused on Christ and not on the problem. Many are losing heart today because of the economic, political, moral, and spiritual crises drowning us. We look at the problems, we listen to the ‘experts,’ and our hearts sink. Unlike Peter, many of us get off the boat when the Lord has not invited us to do so, and when the waves begin to rise, we blame God for not keeping His Word to protect us. All the same, like Peter, we need to cry out to the Lord to save us! Mind you, God saves us daily from innumerable adversities that we are unaware of compared with the few challenges that come our way. May we stay focused and trust in the Lord. Unless our hope is in the Lord, we are guaranteed to sink in these turbulent times – that is God’s verdict. “Faith doesn’t make sense, and sense doesn’t make faith.” (R.T. Kendall, a well-known Christian writer and preacher).
